  • Coming back from a new type of summer.

Sitting in the computer lab at school..already reminiscing about the wonderful morning I had with the bear.  As for those who don't know about the bear..the bear is the bear.

Going away on vacation to St. Martin (8/26-9/2) made me realize that I'll always be a city girl.  The people there just relax 24/7, depending on whether it's the high tourist season or the low-approaching the dead season.  Driving around, we could see people just sitting out their porches, baking in the hot weather.  How could people just live like that?

The answer: we're New Yorkers.  We live in the hustle and bustle; our lives timed to the MTA schedule for when the buses or trains arrive..or not. As much as we want to get away from it all, we soon realize that we actually can't.  Some of us think about that drama we're desperate to watch, our e-mails that are overly full, how many messages or wall posts we need to answer on facebook or myspace.  To take a vacation, you need to vacate-vacate the house, the office, the internet, the phone, everything.

On the trip, because the price of internet and phone minutes increases 1000% of what we have to pay in New York, we boycotted it entirely.  Of course I was homesick and cried twice (1 - the moment we drove away from my house for the last time before being gone for an entire week - i'll divulge in the next blog post 2 - not being able to call home for 3 nights and missing home terribly then crying more when I finally got to hear my brother's voice..ok 2 1/2 times?)

I can say I'm not attached at the hip to any internet connection, there are times when I forgot e-mails and anything virtually related for days on end. Regardless, we did it.  It was one of the most relaxing experiences we could have ever had, thanks to being 5000 miles away from home without a good signal on our phones.

Our daily routine fell into this:

6:30 AM - wake up and be shocked that we were awake at this time

6:30 AM - 8:30 AM can't actually recall but there were times when we straightened out some stuff, read up on what to do for the day, watch the news forecasts on hurricanes Gustav, Hannah, and Ike.  Surprisingly, the news were all what we watch in New York.  Nothing about what was happening in St. Martin.  We weren't smart enough to read the newspaper there everyday because it was named "The Miami Herald" so we thought the news was catered to those who lived in Miami..but lo! it was all about St. Martin. Damn.

8:30 AM - 9:15 AM Head down to the Sunset Cafe located right in our Grand Case Beach Club resort for our free continental breakfast which entailed coffee, croisants, orange juice, loaf of the long bread.  The cafe is located right above the water which gave us a gorgeous view of the beach and the different buildings of the resort.  Also in view is Creole Rock, a pair of islands where people can take a trip on a boat and go snorkeling among the reef and its inhabitants there.

    9:15 AM - 5:00PM

i've got to get to class so i'll have to finish this post later...until then my newfound inspiration to blog..LATER!

  • New Beginnings for '08

I've always believe that life is a constant lesson.  What you learn is totally dependent on you because you have to open yourself up to face a personal flaw we each have.  From there, we can either blame it on external causes or just be a bigger person by taking responsibility for our own actions. Having some humility.  There have been several moments where I wish I hadn't said that, or done that, or I really should have done this or that.  It's all a learning experience.
When I sat down on this chair, I had set out to write my 2008 resolutions. But no. I know myself.  In high school, I always made resolutions I intended to keep. With no willpower or buddies to help keep my resolutions with, they had a lifespan of about a week to 2 weeks.  2008 is going to be so much more different.  I strongly believe that because of Xanga and my blogging, I'll be able to look back and know exactly how the day turned out, if I accomplished anything, and what I hope to accomplish.
It's not that I have been thinking "2008 is practically here, I can just relax for a couple of more days and just get my ass moving then." That thinking made my list of things I should do to grow longer and I feel that this winter break will be well spent. With that said, I'll keep posting.

    Daily habits to keep up:
    1. Drink a bottle of water a day (Poland Spring Sports Bottle, refilled with filtered water because buying a bottle of water a day is ridiculous =D Go GREEN!)
    2. Read the WSJ each day.
    3. Get toned. Not for a bikini body but to be in prime shape period.  This means incorporating a workout schedule into school and work. I'm not much of a food junkie nor do I drink (soda and coffee even)/smoke)  Shouldn't be that hard...just all about discipline.
    4. If I'm not investing into my future, I'll think again about certain activities and purchases.

  • Coming back to reflect

I've never been one to journalize everything that I've experienced but now is a good time to start.  These are memories I have no desire to gradually forget.  I've always read entries others have recorded into their xanga but it never dawned on me the value in doing so. It's like a photo album of thoughts.  You have the album to remember the entire event.  Thinking about it fills me with regret because this is something I wish I had done.  On the positive side, better now than never.

One thing I really appreciate is the feeling as if I haven't lost touch with people by reading their journal entries.  With that said, I want to apologize for not propping or commenting on your posts for the past and for the future.  I still feel as if I know what's going on with these people even though I haven't spoken to them in weeks, months, years.

11/26 - Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes.
What a great show.  Pun will always be able to surprise me, always planning new adventures for us..another show I'd love to watch is Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance.  The Rockettes are like those Celtic dancers in how synchronized their dances are.  Such intricate combinations, it was awesome.

12/7 - 12/11 Amazing trip to Disney World with Pun.  I'm not sure if I was ever into going to Disney World because I never felt as if my parents were the right people to go with.  That's probably the reason why Andy and I never asked if we could go..either that or we weren't watching enough Disney movies.  Regardless, once Pun mentioned the idea, this excitement stirred up in me.  My favorite Disney Park has got to be Epcot.  Their World Showcase is great.  We spent 3 hours in Japan.  I loved the Japanese restaurant there. We had the absolute best sushi ever.  The experience was about as authentic as you can have it minus the American tables and chairs.  If we could sit cross-legged on cushions and be 3 feet from the floor...it would've been perfect.  Spicy tuna...a volcano roll, and some tempura...best meal we've ever had outside..well..Japanese cuisine I've ever had.

Another thing I'll cherish is riding the Carousel/Merry-Go-Round with Pun. Neither one of us has ever done it with a person we had been with and it was a first for the both of us.  The only other person I'ver ever ridden it with would be Andy or maybe even Jenny.

"One" of the most memorable events Walt Disney offered were their fireworks displays. Never have I ever experienced something so spectacular. They've designated a specific station in the water that shoots fire out and after 75 degree weather, it cooled down to 50-55 degrees. Our hearts pounded from the thundering and we felt the immediate warmth and the colorful spectrum we saw in the fireworks...it was fantastic!
